Children who grow up without a steady, loving relationship with a parent become vulnerable to a host of struggles – in fact, 85% of children raised outside of a family will fall victim to trafficking, gang involvement, homelessness, substance abuse, or suicide. It’s a crisis that will continue unchecked – unless the Church steps up to care and partner with community partners, other faith leaders and government .
The South Bay Care Collaborative for Vulnerable Children is a network of churches, faith leaders, community-based organizations, agencies and individuals who are committed to helping children and youth in foster care have loving, stable and supportive homes. We are focused in the South Bay region of LA County, also known as Service Planning Area 8 (SPA 8).
We focus on the following:
-Building a strong network of churches and organizations dedicated to supporting children and families who are at risk or currently involved in the child welfare system.
-Equipping churches and faith leaders with practical tools, resources, and training to effectively care for vulnerable children and families.
-Providing specialized training for parents, caregivers, resource/adoptive parents, and volunteers in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and other trauma-informed approaches, fostering healing and secure attachment for children with complex needs.
-Promoting partnerships between the LA County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), community-based organizations, public agencies, and the faith community to strengthen coordinated support.
-Sharing resources and information to better serve our partners and communities within Service Planning Area 8 (SPA 8).
